Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you charge?
My fee is $60 per hour, which includes a free written assessment following our initial visit. Payment is due at the close of each session using cash, check, or money order.
What happens during the initial visit:
You’ll take me room by room, and show me the areas that are giving you the most trouble. This will allow me to see the spaces and storage options we have to work with. The initial visit usually lasts an hour to an hour and a half. Following this visit, at no extra charge to you, I analyze your needs and develop your personalized written plan of action.
What should I do to prepare for your initial visit?
Absolutely nothing! Let me see your home in its natural state. That way, we’ll be able to determine the areas that need the most attention, and prioritize our plan based on your personal needs and desires. Most importantly, don’t be embarrassed – just be encouraged that you’re taking the first step in making a positive change for you and your family.
How long is a session?
A typical session usually lasts anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. I will work with you to meet your time and budget constraints. Some clients save money by doing the work themselves based on the written assessment, and just call me back for “tweaking.” Other clients are a bit overwhelmed in the beginning, and have me work right alongside them until they feel comfortable and confident to maintain things on their own. Others are limited on time, and have me do the organizing for them. Some of my long-time customers just call me back for ongoing maintenance and upkeep as their needs change.
Will there be other costs involved?
I’ll do my best to work with the items you already own (most people have attempted to get organized numerous times on their own before they call me). However, to make a real lasting difference, it might be necessary to invest in storage containers or filing supplies. Once we assess your needs, I can purchase the items for you and add the receipts to your bill for reimbursement.
Will I have to get rid of all my stuff?
Absolutely not! Sometimes nothing has to go once creative storage ideas are put into place. Together we will determine which items you access the most, and put them in the most accessible spot. We’ll put like things together, and find them a home, so every member of the family knows where to find them; and more importantly, where to put them back. Once we Get It Together, you and your family will make the decision on what goes and what stays.
When will I begin to see results?
Most people get immediate results with just a few simple suggestions. Once one area is organized and functional, watch that motivation spread to the rest of the house – it’s contagious!
